Your company

As a player, there is very little you can do in Taxi Mogul (only challenges and investments are available to you). To properly play Taxi Mogul, you need to be in charge of a company.

When you registered, you have created your first company. You are free to run it, or you can merge it into your friends companies, and become bigger that way.

Explanation of various details shown on all pages. Access your company by clicking on the game logo.

Partners

Companies are run by one or more players, who are called company partners. Together, they constitute the company’s board of directors, and collectively own the company.

A company can have a minimum of one partner (she is the sole owner than), and a maximum of 8 partners.

All partners in a company have equal rights in it, and the company is shared equally between them. Any action that a single partner can do can be performed by all other partners.

You can access your company page by clicking the site logo, or the company name underneath it (in the top-left corner).

Access your company by clicking on the game logo. You can view the Board of directors for any company.

Adding new company partners

You can (and should) get more people to help you run your company. Keep in mind, however, that all partners have equal rights in the company. Only players you trust should become company partners.

You can invite players to become partners by navigating to their player page and using the Invite to company button. As part of your invitation, you can specify that a payment will be made from the company’s account to the invitee; you can also ask the invitee to pay money into the company account as a condition of joining.

Your invitation will be sent as an in-game message to the player, and they will have an option of accepting (or denying) it.

Players you invite into the game are automatically invited into your company by default.

You can invite players to your company from their player page.

Kicking inactive partners

You can kick out partners who are not active in your company (do not do anything for more than 14 days). To do so, proceed to the partner management page and use the kick button.

Kicked partners are removed from the company straight away and sent an in-game message.

There is a grace period of 4 days during which the partner can unilaterally re-establish themselves in the company. Instructions on doing that are contained in the message they are sent.

You can kick out inactive company partners on the Partner management page.

Bank account

Like players, each company has a bank account. It is completely separate from the player’s accounts, and provides a source for all monetary transactions performed by the company.

List of all transactions on the company’s account can be accessed by clicking Show transactions on the company page. That list can be filtered by various parameters.

Premium users also get access to financial reports, which show aggregate historical data on the company’s finances and activities. Non-premium users can only access reports for the last 4 days.

Financial tools are available on your company page.

Company worth

Companies have valuation. This is company’s (theoretical) monetary value. Worth is computed based on the following attributes:

  • Cash in the bank account
  • List price of all company’s facilities
  • List price of all company’s vehicles, adjusted for depreciation
  • If a company has any outstanding investments with a negative net value (investment into the company is more than was received back by the investor), those are taken off the company’s valuation.

There is a leaderboard of companies sorted by their valuation available in the Community section. Can you make it into the top 10?

You can see your company's valuation and ranking on the company page.

Mergers

It is possible to merge two companies into one. When two companies merge, one of them gets dissolved, and all its assets and partners are moved to the other one.

The company that proposes the merger will be the resultant entity, and the company that the merger was proposed to will be dissolved, if they accept it.

All the assets of the dissolved company are moved to the proposer company: this includes vehicles, facilities, drivers, cash in the bank, and inventory items. All partners in the dissolved company become partners in the proposing company.

The proposer also takes on all contractual obligations of the dissolved company (contracts are simply transferred to it).

Effecting a merger

To propose a merger to someone, simply navigate to the company page and click Propose a merger. There you can write a message explaining why you want to merge, and specify partner payout, if any.

Once you click Send proposal, a message will be sent to the proposee company with merger details. They can then accept or reject it.

Accepting the merger will cause the accepting company to be dissolved.

As part of the merger proposal, a partner payout can be offered. This is a sum of money that will be transferred to the bank account of every partner in the accepting company. Obviously, combined cash assets at the time of the merger should be enough to pay this out.

For example: company A proposes a merger to company B. B has 4 partners, and the proposal stipulates $5,000 member payout. A has $5,000 in the bank, and B has $17,000 in the bank. After the merger, combined cash will be $2,000, since 4*$5,000 will be paid out to B's partners. B's partners will become partners in A, but the payout is meant to sweeten the deal for them, since their personal worth will go down as a result of the merger.

If the accepting company has anything listed on the marketplace when they accept the merger, those items will be lost.

Buying companies

You can use mergers to aquire companies as well. Once you've agreed terms of your purchase with the current owners, you can simply propose a merger to them. Use partner payout to transfer cash to them. They will be expected to quit your company as soon as the merger is effected.

Partner merger

When you invite a player to become a partner who already has a company, something must be done with that company. If there are other partners in that company, the player simply needs to quit it. But if she is the sole owner of that company, it gets merged into the company they join.

Propose company merges from other companies' pages.

Investments

Investments are money given to companies by players. Anyone can invest in any company in the game, by going to its company page and clicking the Invest button.

Once you fill in the amount you want to invest, it gets transferred from your player bank account into the company account. The company is then free to use the money in any way it wishes.

How does this affect company's valuation?

Investments are not simple money transfers. They behave more like loans. When you invest in a company (even if it's your own company), the company has an obligation to pay you back.

As a result of this, investments do not affect company's valuation: even though the company's bank balance goes up, it also owes that amount back to the investor, which is taken into account when company's valuation is computed. For example:

Before investment:

Bank balance: $1000.00
Assets: $5000.00
Liabilities: ($0.00)
---
Valuation: $6000.00

After investments of $9000.00:

Bank balance: $10000.00
Assets: $5000.00
Liabilities: ($9000.00)
---
Valuation: $6000.00

What can a company do about its liabilities?

Investments provide a way for players to transfer their personal money into companies. They also provide a traceable mechanism to invest into companies owned by other players, with a view of earning money as an investor.

Companies can then spend the money invested into it on operations: buying cars, facilities, etc. Hopefully, this should let the company make money faster.

Then, as they generate profit, some of it can be paid back to investors. This is available from the Manage Dividends page (linked as Pay dividends on the Bank balance line.) Paying dividends decreases effective liabilities of the company. Continuing from the example above:

After making $5000.00 and paying $3000.00 in dividends to the investor:

Bank balance: $12000.00
Assets: $5000.00
Liabilities: ($6000.00)
---
Valuation: $11000.00

Eventually, the full amount of the investment can be repaid, at which point the liability becomes zero. Investment is still listed on the investments page, however, allowing the company to generate profit for the investor:

After earning another $8000.00 and paying $7000.00 in dividends:

Bank balance: $13000.00
Assets: $5000.00
Liabilities: ($0.00)
---
Valuation: $18000.00

How do investments affect player worth?

Similar thing happens to player worth. Any investments that a player have (listed on the investments tab) where less money was received back than invested count towards player's worth. Once at least the amount invested is received back on an investment, it no longer affects player worth.

Writing investments off

A player can write off investments. This simply removes the investment from the player's and the company's balance sheets. Company's liability is then reduced by the outstanding amount on the investment (if any), which increases company's valuation, and player's worth is reduced by the same.

This allows transferring money into a company.

How are investments useful?

Apart from the obvious use of moving money into your own company, this can also be used to earn money by helping other companies out.

If you have a chunk of cash, you may find a company willing to take it from you. You can discuss the terms of the investment beforehand (for example, specifying how you should be paid back, and what ROI you would like), and then simply invest it into the company. They can use that cash to make more profit, and then repay you back.

If you wish to go down this road, you can post an ad on the Let's team up forum.

Click the Invest button. Enter desired investment amount, and invest it. Manage your company's investments by clicking Pay dividends. Access your personal investment history and manage them on your player page.

Dissolving and registering companies

If you are a sole owner of a company, you can dissolve it. That simply makes the company inactive, and removes your ownership of it. This is done by clicking the dissolve button.

If you are not in any company, you can register a new one by clicking Register a company on your player page. Note that a company registered this way will not received the default car you got when registering for the game.

Your company can be dissolved from the company page.
